THE TWYLA PROJECT continues to gather steam and support for Twyla Gendron. In 2010, the Scarborough woman was diagnosed with breast cancer, was downsized from her job, and lost her husband to cancer. Her friends have rallied round and organized a fundraising project to help her keep her home. To date the group has raised $24,000. Most recently, the host of TV’s Income Property, Scott McGillivray has signed on to renovate her basement into a revenue producing apartment slated to be completed at the beginning of March (and not for broadcast on the show). One of the ways we, and Twyla’s community have tried to say thank you to Scott and his team for what they are doing for the Twyla Project, is by providing a lunch to whomever is working that day. We feel it is the least we can do to show our appreciation for all their hard work.
We never know who will be there on any given day, but there are two intrepid souls who drive from Guelph every morning through every kind of weather. We would like to say a special thank you to Ryoji and Jim from Dream, Design, Renovate for their work ethic, attention to detail and skill. They are a dynamite team and have accomplished wonders.
And our dynamite team of caterers are: Nate, Aaron, Twyla, Corinne, Roslyn, Joan, Kira, Marie and Bev. Thank you all. Your delicious lunches are appreciated by all. I also hear that a certain someone who will remain nameless may even be coming around to the odd vegetable. Wonders!
When Scott McGillivray, SKIT (his production company), and Income Property crew came on board to help us with the Twyla Project a short while ago, they asked their suppliers if they too wanted to join them. Every single one said yes. We don’t have all of the names here, and hopefully, we will one day. But for now, we proudly and gratefully list them here:
MADISON KITCHENS, ROMAC PRODUCTS, KOHLER,
ROXUL, MAPLE LEAF ELECTRIC INC., VALUE WOOD FLOORS,
THE TORONTO TILE STORE, TRIMBO WINDOWS, HOME SENSE,
Twyla is truly blessed. HGTV host/contractor/real estate investor Scott McGillivray of the hit series Income Property has come on board to help with this special project. Scott, SKIT (Scott’s production company) and the Income Property crew are donating cash, services and their time to renovate Twyla’s basement into an income suite in order to help her pay for her mortgage and expenses. Scott is passionate about providing Twyla with a long-term solution so that she can keep her house.
We are brimming over with excitement and can’t wait to share the news with you about what’s been happening with the Twyla Project….be sure to look out for Catherine Porter’s article in the Toronto Star on Saturday….and then the cat will be out of the bag about our little secret.
