In June of 2012, eleven people met to brainstorm, “Help Build Twyla a Basement Apartment”.   The beginning of March 2013, a gob smacked Twyla, with TV cameras rolling, was presented with a stunning two bedroom apartment.

One year from the inception, with the completion of the driveway required for all new basement apartments in Scarborough, the Twyla Project draws to a close.

WE/SHE STILL CAN’T BELIEVE IT!!   We have achieved our goal.  What an amazing line to write.

The basement apartment is rented.  Her mortgage is covered.  A huge weight has been lifted from her, and Florin (her tenant) knows what a special place he has.  A single dad with a young son, he is thrilled with his beautiful apartment and access to Twyla’s stunning garden.

How did we get here?  We asked for your help:  to donate money, labour, skill, whatever you had to offer.  Most importantly, to spread the word to all your contacts and they in turn to theirs, and take the campaign outside of our community.

AND YOU DID!!

This was the house we all built, inspired by a chain reaction of goodness.  Each small step led to another, and another, on and on, teasing out the best parts of ourselves, bringing others along with the momentum.   Each step, each person, brought us to this MOST WONDERFUL FINALE.

THANK YOU ALL.
