TWYLA PROJECT WRAP UP

New Parking PadApartment living roomApartment kitchenDEAR FRIENDS OF THE TWYLA PROJECT,

In June of 2012, eleven people met to brainstorm, “Help Build Twyla a Basement Apartment”.   The beginning of March 2013, a gob smacked Twyla, with TV cameras rolling, was presented with a stunning two bedroom apartment.

One year from the inception, with the completion of the driveway required for all new basement apartments in Scarborough, the Twyla Project draws to a close.

WE/SHE STILL CAN’T BELIEVE IT!!   We have achieved our goal.  What an amazing line to write.

The basement apartment is rented.  Her mortgage is covered.  A huge weight has been lifted from her, and Florin (her tenant) knows what a special place he has.  A single dad with a young son, he is thrilled with his beautiful apartment and access to Twyla’s stunning garden.

How did we get here?  We asked for your help:  to donate money, labour, skill, whatever you had to offer.  Most importantly, to spread the word to all your contacts and they in turn to theirs, and take the campaign outside of our community.

AND YOU DID!!

This was the house we all built, inspired by a chain reaction of goodness.  Each small step led to another, and another, on and on, teasing out the best parts of ourselves, bringing others along with the momentum.   Each step, each person, brought us to this MOST WONDERFUL FINALE.

THANK YOU ALL.

It wasn’t enough that Scott McGillivray, SKIT (his production company), Income Property crew and suppliers have donated their time, money and labour to build Twyla a most beautiful and beautifully made income basement apartment, but city planning for Scarborough also required they put in a driveway for the apartment.

This was a huge job.  It involved erecting tree protection for one tree, cutting down a very large evergreen tree, replacing said tree with 3 others,  removing fencing, moving an entire perennial bed, etc.   This humongous job was donated and completed in early June and went beyond all expectations.  A wonderful job!  Twyla is so pleased and thankful, as are we, Janice and Heather.

A huge thank you to:

JC LANDSCAPING  – PAVING DRIVEWAY, PLANTING TREES AND LANDSCAPING

ONTARIO TREE EXPERTS INC. FOR TREE REMOVAL

Please support all of the suppliers who have helped  make the Twyla Project possible.

A JOB WELL DONE!!

From the humble beginnings of a fundraising project to help a friend, to a  finished basement apartment, beautifully designed and decorated ….

Scott (SKIT), the work crew that were there every day, the tradespeople, the helpers and background supporters and many donors made this a reality.  We could never have accomplished this on our own nor in such a short period of time.

Words cannot express the overwhelming gratitude and awe that we feel.
